Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus won't immediately count against the roster because he will miss the opener against Indianapolis on Sept. 13 to serve a one-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
What's New: The Colts believe the 32-year-old Gore and the 34-year-old Johnson have enough left to give Luck even more weapons, and they're hoping a revamped offensive line keeps the QB on his feet more often. Defensively, the Colts were looking for Langford and Art Jones to stop the run -- until Jones injured his left ankle. Now Jones needs surgery and will be out indefinitely. Perhaps the best news defensively is that 2013 NFL sacks champion Robert Mathis was activated sooner than expected and could give the Colts a much stronger pass rush this season.
He got a chance Tuesday to test out the pace car on the one-and-a-half mile track before jumping in a stock car with Earnhardt, who took him on five high-speed laps around the race track.
Bowles also dealt with the news last month that star defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy and then was charged with resisting arrest after a high-speed road race in Missouri 12 days later. Richardson could face additional discipline by the league for violation of the personal conduct policy once the legal process plays out.
PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Bills have signed two free agents, linebacker Quentin Groves and running back Samuel Seale, to shore up injury-depleted positions.
"I think we had 96 yards after contact last night that we gave up," Whisenhunt said. "That's too big of a number. So we took some bad angles, we didn't do things that we needed to do. That's something I'm confident that we'll work on, and we'll get cleaned up."
